Why Most Convicted Criminals are Young, Male and Working-Class Official crime statistics show that young, working-class males commit most crime. The following are some reasons that I can think of to explain these generalisations. Young ===== I think young people commit crime as they are out of the age group when their parents closely supervise them. Their curfews may have been extended and parents tend to give them a bit more space, privacy and freedom. They are no longer treated as children but are denied the same rights and responsibilities as adults. This can make them feel deprived of status in society and suffer from what sociologists call status frustration. This simply means that they are frustrated their lack of independent status in society. They are also at the stage when their friends are an important part of their (social) life. They want to impress their mates as well as searching for thrills and status among the peer group. Their peer group provides them some support on things to do with school and family and therefore become of great significance. The majority of young people lack responsibilities that include having children, keeping a job and financial demands such as rent or mortgage. The lacking of responsibilities such as these as well as looking for thrills among the peers can often glide young people in the direction of deviant acts that sometimes collide with the law. They might give up these criminal careers, as they grow older due to things such as marriage, parenthood, buying and looking after a home of their own etc. Another reason for why young people engage in crime could be due to the fact that their parents and teachers can no longer control their behaviour. Some sort of breakdown of behaviour control at home and at school may have occurred. These are the only explanations I can find for why a lot of criminals are young. Their offences usually involve trivial things like shoplifting, under-age drinking and are usually peer group related.

The first part of this assignment asks us to list three pieces of fiction that you have read. This question is not easy for me being that I haven’t read many books in my lifetime. The only book I have read is the Holy Bible. I have read several books to my children such as The Three Little Pigs, and Little Red Robin and other children nursery rhymes short stories. What I like about the Bible is it is full of quotes and stories that give me encouragement when I am going through. When I read my bible I feel a connection with God, and this is a wonderful experience. The Bible teaches me how I am to treat my neighbors. It teaches me that if I don’t work then I can’t. It prepares me for Jesus return and if I want to make heaven my eternal home then I have to follow the guidelines that are in the 66 books of the bible. Literature to me is reading different ways that writers put words together and make it into a story, a poem and other reading material. Literature is a source of expression of one’s thoughts that is put onto paper for others to read and gain insight on other people’s thoughts. Literature comes in different forms such as books, and magazines. There are other ways literature can be enjoyed by everybody even if you have a disability such as a blind person can use Braille and listen to a book in audio format. My thoughts on why I think literature is valuable or a waste of time is I have mixed feeling about this. I believe literature is valuable because it helps us to understand the thoughts of others. Literature is valuable in this day and age because if you cannot read or write you will have a hard time finding ways to support yourself and your family. To me it is a waste when your career choice is Medical Coding and Billing, and they give you a literature course that has nothing to do with what you are paying good money to learn your career chose. Part B What are the main points of this piece? They are talking about a homeless man that is dealing with his biological family and the people who live on he street with him that he calls family too. He deals with his being a Native American Indian and being stereotype by others. Even though we as a people stereotype others by how they look, where they live or because they don’t look or do the same as you do, the author wants the people to know all people can be redeemed no matter how low they get in life. Some of the images I seen were after fifty years of not knowing who stole their grandmothers regalia and it suddenly appears as Jackson and his friends are on the streets panhandling. Another image was the yellow bead that was sewn somewhere into the regalia. This was a tribal tradition to hide it in the regalia so it wouldn’t be easy to find. What does the grandmother regalia symbolize? The regalia was worn when they participated in the powwow dance, which was a traditional ceremony performed by the Native American Indians. It is amazing that he walked by a pawnshop and immediately recognized his grandmother’s regalia without ever seeing it other than in pictures. I enjoy reading about Native American cultures and beliefs. There was a lot of humor in this story and Jackson definitely did not take himself too seriously. I think the 1st person narrator was very important in telling this story.I do not feel that Jackson was an unreliable narrator because he seemed to tell it like it is. He had no reason to try to make himself look better. He seems to accept himself for who he is. He is an honest man who seems to be well liked by everybody he deals with on a regular basis, from the cop to the guy with the newspapers. He shows his struggles with alcohol and also his giving nature. All the money he came across he spent not just on himself getting drunk bu t on others as well.I believe that the theme of the story is that no matter where you go in your life you never forget or really give up where you come from. Jackson Jackson has been homeless for six years away from his family in Spokane yet as soon as he saw his grandmother’s regalia in the window he knew it was hers even before they find the yellow bead. Being the first to fall for the biggest sin and the sole representation of women, God’s Eve has been distinctively portrayed countless times. Both John Milton and Aemilia Lanyer convey two stimulating views of Eve. Milton in Paradise Lost captures Eve as a rebel who risks an entire mankind to evil, while Lanyer in Eve’s Apology in Defense of Women completely defends Eve’s innocence, insisting she is collateral damage out of Adam’s actions. They use Adam and Eve as symbols of their sex to shape women’s nature and role. Although the poets’ arguments are clearly different from each other, their perceptions of Eve as a woman are awfully similar. Compared to Milton’s, Lanyer’s poem falls flat as she seems to support his belief, which is that women are too weak and incapable. In her attempt to defend women, Lanyer misses the fact that she is not only attacking men but also women, only strengthening Milton’s argument. The study was conducted in Iloilo Doctors’ College at Iloilo, Philippines in 2012. The study utilized the descriptive method of research and employed survey research to gather data.The findings of this study served as basis in developing a handbook on solid waste management. Research findings showed that the waste generators do not practice waste segregation. Dumping of wastes in the streets, rivers and open drainage are often practiced. The respondents do not also practice recycling of wastes because of the lack of facilities and lack of support from the local government units. Th e study covered the responses of 100 waste implementers, which were classified as students of Iloilo Doctors’ College. Respondents from the residential areas were chosen using the multi-stage sampling.Random sampling was used to determine one sample barangay for each of the four year levels of the Information Technology Students namely: southern, northern, central and eastern areas. The respondent-implementers, on the other hand, included the officials of the barangays where respondent-waste generators are also residing. The city officials also serve `as respondents, being the persons responsible in the implementation of RA 9003. Results and Discussion Solid Waste Management Practices of the Waste GeneratorsThe proper solid waste segregation includes using separate containers for biodegradable, non-biodegradable, domestic hazardous and bulky wastes with markings to distinguish the type of wastes inside, and segregating for re-use, recycling and composting. These however, are not being practiced in Barangays Sum-ag and 19 and seldom observed in Barangays Estefania and 10 (Table 1). Proper collection and transport were not practiced in the four barangays. The LGUs in the barangay level were not responsible in the collection of the biodegradable, recyclable, compostable and reusable wastes.Proper waste disposal was seldom practiced in the four barangays. Solid wastes were usually dumped in the creeks, canals, open spaces, along the sidewalks and deposited in the Felisa Open Dumpsite. Incineration was always practiced. Waste recycling was not practiced in Barangay 19 and seldom practiced in the other three barangays due to lack of recycling facilities, LGUs were not giving much attention to recycling industry as well as public were not encouraged to use recycled materials.
